Nice one Jeff. I'm not into nepenthes but I was quite intrigued by this one which I stumbled upon while looking for orchids.It was growing on the edge of a swampy area right out in the open exposed to the sun. This area is on the highlands at around 5000 ft elevation. What attracted me was the colour of the pitchers which is so dark brown it is almost black. Does anyone know the ID ?

Thanks Randy. I googled after reading your post and it looks very much like your ID of N ramispina. I just wonder if it will do ok in the lowlands.

Yikes look at those spines and teeth! Darwin and I were watching boats go by this weekend and one sailboat was named 'Nepenthes'. I wonder why? Maybe because it looked harmless but would eat you for lunch if it could

I grow a hybrid of this... Rebecca Soper (ramispina x ventricosa) and its doing
quite well in my conditions. Some highlanders do well in the lowlands.

ok, so the basic shape of the lip looks like the hull shape of a boat. Those downward pointing teeth would likely keep one from falling 'overboard'? Still hard to make the plant/sailboat connection.

Oh you were looking for that connection... anyways if you google for a photo
Nepenthes "Viking" you may see the connection... actually it was named as
such because they resemble viking ships... anyways its already given a proper
name, Nepenthes mirabilis var globosa.
