I've always wanted to experience seeing them in person, but for the meantime i'll have to contend with those beautiful photos.

hey thanks guys. The southern tip of the south island (invercargill/bluff) isnt anywhere near the antarctic circle so we are really lucky to see them up this far-its a pretty intense storm so im not at all suprised that they are reaching this far. Reports are that you can see them from Wellington City of you live high enough.

As i said its a pretty intense storm with the two promeanades exploding from the sun, so i wouldnt be suprised if you do end up seeing some. If you do, snap some shots and upload- I would love to see the borealis.

Jordan, the temperature yesterday was 103 degrees (F ) Today, a little after 6:00 PM in the evening it is 97 degrees (F ) in the shade. A little better, but still quite HOT! Betty :-)

hey, These are the southern lights, taken from Te Anau at the south tip of lake tekapo, But (and this is just a wild guess) i would expect the northern lights to reach as far as southern canada or below the border? im not sure because i dont live in the northern hemisphere. I would look to the north at night, and if you see a red haze on the horizon, i would expect that to be the lights.(in hamilton, we can only see a red haze, similar to pic one, taken from Taupo)
