Talking Results of a solar wind

My cousin in the South island-At lake Tekapo, sent us these amazing pictures of the Aurora Australis-the southern lights.

The green colour is when the solar photons/particles come in contact with oxygen, and the pink is when the particles/photons come in contact with Nitrogen.

FYI, this is over 3 or 4 days.

Default Up here they are called the Northern Lights

We see them up here in Alaska all the time. Well, not in the summer as it does not get dark, but all the rest of the time. The farther north you go the more extreme they get. I worked on the North Slope cooking for the oil companies for a while and they were awesome up there.

Great pictures. It is not easy to get good photos of them.

    cheers,
    Jason

Those are beautiful, Jordan. Your cousin did a great job of taking those pictures. When we lived in Goose Bay, Labrador, we would see the Northern Lights also. Betty :-)
