Nice clone!
Very nice.... I almost got one before but then I was told that its a cool grower. Maybe
I have to rethink...
Probably the best colors I have seen in Vanda Coerulea photos! Superb blooms.
I have learnt on visits to the nurseries in Bangkok, collecting Vandas I had ordered, that they don't actually "grow" Vandas there. All the big nurseries have real growing places up at Chiang Mai , which apart from being 500 (?) miles north is also 1500 feet higher. They bring the plants down to Bangkok to show and sell - because most of their sales are to visitors, and all the visitors go to Bangkok, and only some of them get to Chiang Mai . In fact on my last visit, a few years ago , the Chiang Mai places were not open to the public, and the addresses were hard to discover - unlike the Bangkok places. And btw if you are buying, the Chiang Mai prices were a bit lower too - although even Bangkok prices are ridiculously low compared to what we have to pay in UK and maybe USA too . £30 = US$48 for a good strong flowering size top quality Vanda meristem or top cutting in UK ; US$7 in Bangkok....
Not that I'm suggesting the traders are engaged in a rip-off operation. Twenty years ago the only Vanda hybrid on sale in UK was V Rothschildiana, and I started going out there to buy what I wanted for my collection - 40 plants in a large box, brought in as passengers accompanied luggage, sweet-talk the check-in girl about how I was supporting their company's economy, and if I was lucky get away without any excess baggage charge. ( Worked well with ChinaAir - or was it AirChina , sometimes with Thai Air, never with American Airlines or BA - too smart, they were... ). Then I started buying the same plants and having them sent - but it was actually cheaper to pay my fare and collect them, what with rapacious Customs duties, plants delayed when the box was put in a corner and over-looked because I was not a regular large-scale importer, so that the plants were in poor condition etc etc...
hi geoff,
that might have been the case with my plant, although i think there might be already clones or crosses out there, which adopted to hotter climates, like in zain's case.
Randy, Jojo try and please get the healthy one, Ron I got the same experience with you all 4 plants within a week fried and gone forever, never give up, maybe your luck this time is there.
Geoff I agree with you some of the nurseries in Malaysia also do the same thing, they bring the flowering Cymbidium hybrids from highland to lowland and sell with so expensive, very eye catching, when you buy later after a year the new shoot already mature no flower spike noted so frustrated only new shoots after one another.
To recover the dehydrated orchids especially vanda it will take at least about 8 weeks, my Vanda bensonii just recovered from severe dehydration. Immediately when you received the plants do not exposed to the rain the leaf will become yellow and slowly detach and the plant fried.( Nurse in ICU with regular watering)
really nice...
Wonderful!
