    Talking Rhyncholaeliocattleya Beverly Blietz 'Volcano Queen'

    Betty gave me a lovely orchid (cattleya) right after she joined our community. I lost the first set of bud on it when a fan went out in the greenhouse this summer and the temps went up over 140 degrees. Cooked lots of my orchids (paphs and phals mostly)

    BUT, Betty's cattleya orchid hung on (even though it was mounted and got extremely dry). Well, today I was out checking the heaters at lunch and saw that it was blooming. It was really steamy in the greenhouse today, so the photos are a bit fuzzy, but boy, what a beautiful bloom! It only has the one flower, but what a beauty it is. Thanks so much Betty!! See this orchid makes me smile and today really brightened up a rather rough day. I am so glad to have friends like you.

    Sorry to hear what happened in your greenhouse this last summer. That must of hurt. This flower reminds me of fine silk and chiffon. Very lovely and what a great gift!

    Nice Bruce, that is a Beauty! I love the pinkish/mauve contrast with the brilliant yellow. Thanks for the picture of the entire plant too, it really shows how glorious this bloom is. That is a rough story about cooking your plants, makes this one even more special...
