I was given this large plant of Stanhopea recently. It has a name which I don't believe. Its supposed to be a species.
Does any one recognise it or something close please.

Looks a bit like my Stanhopea assidensis, but not sure. Here is a thread where I posted a photo that I found online. I have not bloomed mine yet, so I have no actual photo to compare.
Beautiful Stanhopea anyway, I hope you get the correct identification.
Cheers,

It didn't take long Bruce. Feed back and a lucky find in a search points to it being,
Stanhopea Memoria Paul Allen. ecornuta x tigrina.
The 2 pics I found could have been these but they were taken in 2009.
Oh great, I misunderstood. I thought you thought it was a species so I started looking at species photos instead of hybrids.Glad you found its identification!

Your stanhopea is beautiful, Roy. I assume it is fragrant...Betty :-)
Yes it is Betty, its very pleasant too. I walked into the orchid house this morning to a room full of beautiful perfume. Not like some Stans, they smell like Tom Cats had been there.
Nice one Roy! You had better send it north to escape the rising flood water. I have cleared a spot for it in my shade house and acquired some ti-tree bark yesterday to line the basket.

Roy, you are considered lucky to have this beautiful blooms in your greenhouse with the smell fantastic.
Zain, these days its not hard to get a plant with a fragrance. Not that I'm into collecting them but one like this is a pleasure. I've had too many over the years that ( as said before ) smell like a Tom Cat has been there.
