The Penang Floral Fest - Non-Orchid Section

I went to this year's Penang Floral Fest on 17 Dec. This year's Floral Fest was a bit of a letdown. I didn't attend last year's fest, so was unable to compare it with this year's fest. But compared to previous fests that I have attended this year's was a disappointment. In previous years there was an international flavour, with participants from South Africa, Holland, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand. This year's however was a local affair.

However, there were plenty of stalls (about 20) selling potted plants incuding bonsais, flowering plants and lots of orchids, and other garden and horticultural paraphernalia.
This year, apart from the orchid competition, there were also Bonsai and Adenium competitions.The orchid competition, I felt wasn't as keen or as well supported as in previous years.

In this post, be posting pictures of the Bonsai And Adeniums. I'm still sorting out the orchid pictures and will post later.

There was a good selection of bonsai but i'm only posting 4 pictures. I personally thought the outstanding one was the 'raspberry'(?) bush. It was about a foot high and two feet across.

Yew, wow stunning, very pretty the Adenium so fantastic any idea how old is the individual plants, I was told they can be more than 5 years at least? How do they maintain a good healthy plants until at this point with small roots system? Thanks for sharing.

I have a few plants and one of them is more than 8 years old. Never did have too much success with them - too much watering and too lazy to repot them. I understand from the nursery man that to keep them healthy they need to be repotted every year and when doing that the roots too need to be pruned to fit the pot. Sounds like too much trouble: I'll just stick to orchids.

Same here with bonsai. Too much work , pruning and training.

Thanks Yew Sung for sharing, that lovely 'Raspberry bush' is actually a Mulberry tree. I have one in my garden which I stick my orchids on.

Thanks Martin for the ID. There wasn't any English tag on it and all the description was in Chinese, which unfortunately I can't read. I assumed it was raspberry since the berries resembled raspberry. Though I have seen mulberry trees that are grown for feeding silkworms in Trengganu and Chiengmai I have never seen the fruits.
