I will have to look again tomorrow. I don't see it in the photo, but I don't really have a good closeup of the bloom. The grey part in the center may be reflective. Good question!!

    Cheers,

Just checked and no, the first orchid bloom open doesn't appear to be reflective.

    cheers,

For some reason, I thought they all had a reflective surface...I just remember reading the Nat Geo article that was linked a while ago and being fascinated by the "pseudocopulation." That is why I remembered these so well.

I like the look of the flowers and the actual plant. Its cultural requirements are unique and certainly easy in the warm months. Enjoyed this post Bruce. AL

I have a couple of ground orchids that I ordered a few years ago. I sit and look at the empty pots for months on end. Sometimes something comes up, sometimes not. I'm hoping someday they actually bloom. lol Looks like yours is doing well....and i really like the flowers on this one. Cool looking...

Nice one BD. You have to be careful with the terrestrials that remain dormant throughout most of the year. I had my resting Harbenaria sumatrana thrown away by my wife, together with the soil, because she needed the pot for one of her plants!!!

luckily, I am the only one here that cleans in the greenhouse. Hopefully, I will not do that. hahaha...
