Phal. leaf problems

I was given two Phals which someone had outdoors - while I expected two plants in pots, what I got was two plants minus the pots! Their leaves are odd - they are standing straight up and actually seem to be getting more straight up. I have them in my bathroom on humidity trays and I'm watering them every 7 - 10 days. They get indirect diffused Southern light. I thought perhaps that in their last home they might have been reaching towards the light and hence the upright growth. Help!

Are you sure they're Phalaenopsis?

Did you put them in pots?

Can you post a picture?

Actually one of of the plants is doing this weird upright leaf thing - and yes, they're both back in pots. Sorry, don't have a camera for posting photos.

The leaves growing upright in themselves is not a problem, but make sure that water does not rest in the crown of the plant when you water.
There could be different reasons for this, of course light source is the number one cause, but it could be a particularity of the variety you have.

If you can not post a picture, could you describe them, say, from the bottom up? I do not mean to insult your knowledge, but are you sure they are Phals.? Do they have pseudobulbs?

It could also be that these were being grown mounted and hanging down since they were growing outside. Potting them up, they would have leaves facing upward (at least for a while) since they are maybe now - upside-down compared to how they were being grown. (Just a theory.) Or, it could be, as Eric mentions, "particularity of the variety you have".

I will attempt to put it on the scanner - having been a plant freak for over 40 years my gut feeling is that they were placed in a spot outdoors where their only light exposure was to overhead sun and so they reached for the light. My hesitation to go with my gut is that I'm new to orchids and their care. Also, the reason I think they're Phals is that when I put them alongside another Phal. the leaves are completely identical. Of course, I could be totally wrong! Thank you to all the great folks who've replied to my original post.

ok, here goes, I've followed the instructions but I don't feel confident.

never mind, I'm going with my gut feeling that the plant just had very poor light given to it and grew upward towards the sun. thanks to everyone who tried to help this computer literate guy with what's usually a simple task - oy vey!
