one last try
well, this at least has the words ATTACH in my text now - who feels lucky?!
Thanks EH for posting the picture.
It is indeed a phalaenopsis, and I don't think there is anything wrong with it, except that it may be a little bit stunt or stressed due to inappropriate growing conditions at some point of time.
I have a phally doing a similar thing, alongside my other phallies that are all growing 'normally'. I have attached a picture to show you.
It was actually a plant that I rescued from leaf burn, and the new leaves started to develop that way...

Yes, looks quite normal. I bet the blooms are purplish when it blooms too based on the stem color and underside of the leaves.
Cheers,

Thanks Eric and BD - it does indeed have quite a purplish underside. So far I've had success with bringing buds to flowering - my Paph right now has a huge bud just about ready to open and my Phal Doritis is in bloom with 8 buds open and 6 more opening - not bad for my first 2 out of 3 plants I say humbly and with fingers crossed! Luckily I have great patience and a green thumb - I've always been the "plant guy" among my friends! Thanks again for your advice and your help in uploading my photo (it was too big BD and needed resizing). EH
