Default Orchid What Not To Do List....feel free to add :)

I thought this would be benificial especially to novices and newbies.......i see many questions about these things on here all the time!

    I hope it helps
And seniors, feel free to add to the thread!

W.N.2.D no1....The biggest and most important.....NEVER SIT YOUR ORCHIDS IN WATER FOR LONGER THAN 24 HOURS (unless it is a Disa)

W.N.2.D no2....Always repot your orchids when the medium starts breaking down (as seen here), otherwise chances of root root increase and the roots suffocate.

W.N.2.D no3....When in bud, never subject to rapid changes in temperature, such as might occur when moving from outdoors to indoors and visa-versa, otherwise (as seen here) the buds will discolour and blast, which is when the buds drop.

WN2D#4...don't cook them. Keep in mind that a "warm" "high light" orchid doesn't mean it wants full sun and 100*F days.

WN2D #5...don't overpot them..most would rather be a little snug than swimming in a too-big pot..

WN2D #6.... Never leave your orchids wet overnight as this encourages fungal infections, especially on chilly or very cool nites. AL

WN2D # 7...do not let your newly repotted (or any other) orchid tump over headfirst. Sometimes, orchids can be top heavy & prone to this, esp. if potted in plastic pots. And, as the media dries out, the bottom has even less weight. Many of my orchids in plastic pots are then set inside a clay pot, just for the added weight.

WN2D # 8...when selling off over half of your collection, check for pests otherwise people will become wary of you.....
