    Emeli--
That's a bit hard to answer, as it varies a lot by orchid. I have one catt that formed a spike in the summer, and did not bloom til the winter. And another that spiked & bloomed within a month or two.

My 'patience' was sorely tested when my Paph stonei bloomed 8 months after the sheath was formed and 2 keikis later. One of the keikis has now started a sheath and I am talking to it daily to persuade it not to follow in its mother's footsteps. Hope that works.

I will, Kathi. The sheath is now 1 1/2 inches tall. No difference since yesterday. I have been talking to it in English, Malay and Hokkien (one of the Chinese dialects). I still have another 4 Chinese dialects to go. Seeing that it comes from Sabah, I may soon have to learn to speak Kadazan. Who says growing orchids is easy? Hehehehe
