I visited a friend that grows Vandas, yesterday...this came home with me along with a couple of others.
The blooms are about 4.5 inches across and very heavy textured. I thought it had great form.

very nice Cathy
Very nice! Your friend must have some nice vandas....this one is gorgeous!
This is my Thai friend that made all the Mimi Palmer crosses. We have been buddies for quite a few years He is a quite, shy gentleman that loves koi, lotus and orchids. He one of the most generous people I have ever met.
I bought a few orchids and we talked about this Mimi Palmer 'Teoh Boon Hait' cross that I bought as young plants several years ago. I told him that someone told me it could have award potential on a couple of the crosses. He was really happy.
So I am leaving after lunch and putting the three vandas in the truck...He comes back out with a huge plant and gives it to me. He hands me a tag: V. Mimi Palmer ' Teo Boon Hiat' HCC/HRT X V. coerulea. And tells me, let me know what you think of this one. I was wowed by his gift.
Who knows what this one is going to look like. I can't wait!!
Beautiful vanda orchid. You are correct about the great form too. I completely agree!
Love this story. Some of my favorite orchids come from friends who grow orchids. I always love to see an orchid bloom that a friend gave to me or traded to me. Means so much more to me than the ones I simply order or buy in a store.
Cheers,

So this is one of the lucky ones that did come home with you. It sounds as if you have a great friend. I guess he is very generous.
O.K. tell your friend I like him already and may I have three Vanda's please?Or if this doesn't work how about a cultural exchange? In this case I will send him cactus and he can send me Vanda's. Of course the exchange rate will have to be worked out. We must have proper standards you know. So I was thinking it really should be based on supply and demand. He supplies and I demand. All kidding aside he sounds like a great friend and a nice guy. Both are attributes that are rare and precious. The Vanda flowers you have displayed are so covered in deep red spots that they remind me of plush carpet. A very enjoyable thread. AL
