I have enjoyed the pictures of Mike's Koi. Those are some beautiful, colorful fish. Portland is such a natural place for a Japanese garden. You can tell Mike that I vote YES for the greenhouse project. Do you think it would tempt him if you could design the frame in a Japanese Pagoda or Oriental style. Of course Victorian looking greenhouses with all the ginger bread can easily be found and would still not be out of place with a Japanese garden. Tempt him with some 'tender' Asian exotic plants that could not otherwise take the Northwest winters. Last I am just throwing things out there so you can pick and choose, I do believe that Koi are long lived if their not eaten. A greenhouse structure would throughly protect them and provide a milder climate to them also. Good luck Naoki! AL

Al, you continue to amaze and impress me with you deviousness. We need you in Washington! LOL Beautiful pond and koi. I love koi because you can train them to come to you and eat out of your hand--and yes they are very long lived and in Japan can become part of the family and the estate for generations.

Bill, thank you. When I was a child in Japan, I remember koi came to me as I clapped my hands. As of today, I tried many time, but no response yet. Hmmmm.
