Trimming the dead roots will have no effect whatsoever, like i said, just dont disturb the medium-ie, dont remove the plant, just carefully pull out the dead roots. I wouldnt remove the plant while in flower, as phals tend to have very loosely packed medium, and it all falls out anyway, causing the plant a bit of distress.
