Laelia anceps 'Irwin's' AM/AOS

I have read that this one is an old variety of L.anceps and that the plant is temperature tolerant. I cannot say for sure about cold weather because I never let my plants endure temperatures below 50 or even 55F, but this Laelia is certainly heat tolerant. 100F is not a problem. It is blooming for me 1st time. I purchased the plant about one year ago.

Absolutely beautiful! I love those tall Laelia anceps but I haven't had much luck with them. I had three and managed to kill two of them. The one I have left never blooms. I think I'll mount it like you have your's. Good growing.

I think this Laelia prefers to be mounted. It likes to dry completely between waterings. Since we have a high humidity here in Florida, it does not get too dry, either.

Yep, a general rule here is cool and dry. I leave mine for a month between watering, and it stays around 10C

Well it is a variety, so there is a possibility the blooms are larger than the original species....

L. anceps 'Irwin's' is the largest flower in AOS awards, nearly 6" (although not tetraploid). For me the length of the inflorescence is not as much of a problem as the rhizome length. I grow it potted, and it will quickly outgrow the pot (though the plant doesn't seem to mind).
