Jennevie, lovely Oncidiums! Can you tell me what type of mount is on the right side of the second picture? I have been thinking of mounting my Onc Sweet Sugar because it seems a bit clumsy in its pot. Thanks!

Hi Gage! I mounted it to a fern slab, I then tie it to a cut tree branch. I think they grow more freely and less repotting needed when mounted than in pots. So established growth is more continuous.

Hi Jenn,

Maybe you could devide the Oncidiums after 2 weeks since the last bloom fell off.
This is the best time for them to devide since they are already had rest (2 weeks) after a long blooming weeks which had almost got their all stored nutrients.

Jennevie, thanks for the info! I have a large chunk of tree fern that I was planning on mounting my Sweet Sugar to. Do you think that will have sufficient moisture just on the tree fern, or dry too quickly? I'm planning on mounting it on all sides so it will eventually cover the chunk.

You're welcome Gage! I think your Sweet Sugar will do well when mounted to the tree fern. Just remember to leave more space on top part as they love to climb upward. Water the plant thoroughly every time u water, meaning the tree fern must be wet. If you're worry with the moisture, maybe a can put little sphagnum moss at the bottom to keep the tree fern moist, to help the root establish. but be sure to have good air circulation too
