Glow in the dark Orchids?

So, what is the end result listed as, plant or insect? Looks really cool, but the possibilities are a bit scary to me. Sort of like the whole clone thing. I can see good sides to it, but the dark side is really dark. Of course it wouldn't be too dark if it glows. LOL

Well, it hasn't flown away yet, so I assume it is still classified as a plant

I saw that on there! It is a pretty cool plant, although i am no fan of GM products....

In tropical region if something is glowing it will attract insects or any animals such as bat eating bugs, this abnormal plant cannot sustain in open atmosphere here, in Malaysia night beetles black and brown with different sizes will come and visit any light sources, it's also will chew if something that delicious to them including new stem and flowers. I can predict the fate of this plants. There is pros and cons any new genetic engineering especially involving living animals and plants.

It has been growing in Dr Chia's back garden in Singapore for the past 11 years, Zainal, and hasn't been eaten yet! Perhaps the quoted intensity of light, ranging from 5,000 to 30,000 photons per second, is not bright enough to attract insects.

Maybe what they should use is not the firefly but the humble Pyrethrum. If its gene(s) responsible for generating pyrethrin were used to impart this ability to orchids, they could be rendered resistant to many pests... no need to spray! (Unfortunately Vanilla and other food plants would have to be exempt, otherwise we would poison ourselves...) What d'you reckon folks?
