This is a hybrid based on Rodriguezia lanceolata and a couple of other near-Oncidium miniature species. The spike has been slow developing, with new flowers opening every day or two but a lot more to come and I hope they will all be out by the time I back home at the end of the month, but I wanted to show it now just in case I am wrong about that.
According to Orchidwiz, the flower count per spike of the five specimens of this grex which have had AOS awards is 19 and since my plant has something like 25 or more buds and flowers, including the three branches to the main flower stem , I have to think it's is good going.
The pot is a 4 inch saucer pot btw, and the flowering bulb is almost 2 inches high, which is much bigger than any Rodriguezia I have seen, obviously the influence of say Gomesa sarcodes which is also in the parentage.
I am growing in well-washed coarse Perlite, topped with quartzite grit, just as if it were in S/H but I think that would be too wet at the roots ; it hangs with the smaller Vandaceous stuff so it gets sprayed almost daily.
Doing this ell I can hope for a break and two leads next. I am a born optimist - its less dreary than being a pessimist I think.

Mine got a really bad case of scale this past summer. I scrubbed and soaked it and put it in a basket. It has a single spike this time, but it's starting to take off again. They are great plants, easy to grow. Your flowers are much deeper red than mine...very pretty!

So..... Geoff, it's time to take a holiday to the U.S. and get an AOS award, don't you think? I can arrange your travel plans if you like.

Sorry to hear about the scale problem you HAD. Am fighting that noxious little devil now. UGH!
