It looks like you did good with the roots. I too prefer to learn on less expensive orchids. One of my first orchids was a box store 'rescue' Phal. That was almost 6 years ago. I still have it, and it blooms reliably twice a year. Now I would never knowingly purchase a sick orchid, but I have no regrets about buying and learning on that one. I am proud to have brought it back to health. You will have that satisfaction too when your's gets better.

Sometimes when repotting I'll soak an orchid in water with a little Superthrive. I wouldn't mix that with the bleach, though.
