Aerides odorata var calayana

The identification of this variety is a bit questionable. One local expert thinks this is a variety of A. odorata, found only in the Philippine island of Calayan, near Taiwan. Very fragrant, like the other Aerides I have posted.

I think this is a variety of Aerides orata which is common in Japan and Taiwan areas.
The islands of Calayan in the Babuyan group of island- (part of Cagayan province) is such a treasure of orchids and wildlife.
I remember that last year a group of scientists (ornithologists) from UK and the Philippines had also discovered a rare Calayan Rail.

There is an aerides type of orchid that is a native to my home province, La Union. I don't know which form but its purple and white. I got one small division here which I hope to bloom in maybe 2 years. Because the flowers are small, it was usually ignored and left alone until someone started collecting them and selling them to the orchid trade, now its almost extinct in the wild.
