Cattleaya pot chief sweet orange

i am jealous!
from your post, you are growing it outside under the shade. are cattleyas that hardy? i am also from california but from san jose ( bay area).
any advice out there if it is ok for me to grow my future cattleyas outdoor?

As a general rule you can consider:
1) Night temperature around and over 10ºC are no problem for most Cattleya hybrids.
2) By night temperatures in between 3 to 10ºC it is recommended to keep the roots dry. Protect the plant from rain with plastic cover. Water the plants only when the next 2 days the temperature will be over 10ºC.
3) Below 3ºC is not recommended. Or you have to heat the green house or you have to take the plants in to a warmer environment.

Thank you Horst for information ,after I post last night the temperature drop 10 degree but still o.k for outside and from the range that you gave,made me not to take a risk.i need to move all my orchids inside the shade house when the winter come.

i purchased my first cattleya last weekend and i'm crossing my fingers hope i will not kill it.
looking at your cattleya, i did noticed the potting mix you used. what are they? ----are they better than the regular orchid potting mix?

my potting mix is a hydroton or leca clay and i use semi-hydroponic method which you can't see 2 hold on the side of the pot.the reason that i use this method because i'm the over watering person.i almost kill all of my catts last year that everybody here remember very well so for now some of my orchids are in S/H and some are in mounting ..
