Cool Rhynchostylis Gigantea ('Red' x 'Plai')

I am so excited to finally see this plant in bloom. It waited until it was rather large to throw a couple spikes. I am sure there are many larger and prettier...but this one is the first of it's kind to not only survive my care...but it bloomed. This is the first time it's bloomed since I bought it as a near blooming size plant a few years ago.

...and my Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Colorful Blue', is showing off as well. It blooms 2-3 times a year.

The Rhyn' is excellent, great color. I have a Lou Sneary 'Tokyo' in spike, never seen it before.

I saw your flowers and wondered how the same cross could produce such different flowers...but then that is genetics for you. Your flowers are gorgeous...although I was very pleased that the wine color came through on this one. When I bought it, I hadn't paid enough attention and got a cross, not the red. As it turns out i'm loving the color...although i'd have been blown away if it had looked like yours too. Silly orchids...i'm hooked...i'd have one in each color if I could. lol

Congrats Connie. Awesome Rhyn. The colour is really great. This is just another species that does not like me they always slink off into the sunset. LOL

I had tried these as well, unsuccessfully two or three times. I got this one as NBS, the ad said one year from blooming but this one took over two years. I think they like baskets with big chunks of wood and as much sun as the leaves will take without burning. As you can tell from mine, a couple times I had too much sun and burned the leaves.
