I generally water my cattleyas and encyclias in wood baskets, really well, twice a week if they're well established with some good roots. Once on the weekend and once on Wednesday. I also fertilize on the weekend. I find oncidiums in baskets like to be watered more often. I water them every other day during the growing season. When oncidiums get large, with lots of roots, they can go on the twice a week schedule. Newly transplanted orchids that don't have many roots need to be watered every other day also until they grow some roots out.
