Hands up everyone who knew what a Devereauxara is ! Really ? Well I suppose I have to believe you.
The plant actually came labelled as Ascovandoritis Pralor, but when Doritis pulcherrima went back to being a Phalaenopsis, that label became redundant. The other parent btw is an Ascocenda- Ascda. Pralor.
A first flowering on a plant I have had for a couple of years. Looks as though it might manage 20 flowers, better grown ; now that I have taken the trouble to look it up, I can see that I might modify my culture a bit , perhaps a bit more shade.
Flowers bigger than pulcherrima - maybe 3 cm across.

Another clone has been awarded, and in the description sounds more exciting than this - orange tips to the petals - worth looking out for perhaps.

That is very pretty, Geoff. The Phal pulcherrima seems to be very dominant here, from the arrangement of the flowers on the spike to the colour - the bright orange of Ascda Pralor doesn't seem to be present here. Nonetheless a very desirable mini vandaceous.

Well, since you asked... Devereuxara has been is use for hybrids of Ascocentrum x Phalaenopsis x Vanda since at least 1972, so they didn't just come up with it for this. And it fits the modern convention of naming more than bi-generic hybrids after a person (named Devereaux in this case) rather than squishing parts of 3 or more genera into one name, though some older combinations like that may still be in use. And if they did combine Ascocentrum, Phalaenopsis and Vanda it would likely have been Ascovandaenopsis, since Ascovandopsis would indicate a hybrid of Ascocentrum x Vandopsis (yes, that is a natural genus). But this may all be pointless if Ascocentrum is considered a synonym of Vanda, and this plant is Vandaenopsis.

Really? Interesting! I had never seen before whereas I have seen many cases of "squishing parts of (3 or more) genera into one name". The "squishing" -- such as Ascovandaenopsis, or Ascovandopsis -- seems more logical to me as it at least gives one an idea of what genera were involved.

Some of these names are pretty commonly seen, they always end in -ara... Mokara, Darwinara, etc. And with some hybrids involving 5, 6 or 7 genera you'd get quite a mouthful trying to squeeze them all in.

Well, if Ascocentrum as a synonym of Vanda has you spluttering, I better not even mention Sedirea and Neofinetia becoming Vanda too.
