I purchased this rescue Phal about a month ago from the clearance rack because it had a single yellow flower with pink stripes, a pattern I found very intriguing. The leaves were already looking quite sad and droopy but I brought it home anyway. I immediately cut the spike and repotted only to find that the entire root system was rotted (it was in dense sphagnum moss in a glass jar with no drainage!).

I bagged the plant in an inflated Ziploc bag, misted it lightly in the bag every day and kept it in the shade. After a few weeks, a tiny root nubbin began to show and it was trying to grow a new leaf. So I took it out of the bag and placed it on top of a baby food jar half filled with water. Now the root and new leaf have poked out a little more, but the old leaves are deteriorating. I'm curious to see whether the new growth will be able to sustain the plant before the old leaves completely die out. It's actually trying to grow another leaf already (it's visible in the third photo)! I'm trying to keep the leaves misted to prevent water loss, but is there anything else I can do? Maybe treating the plant with a root stimulant? Fertilizing? Potting it in bark? Any suggestions?
