Dendrobium spectabile black spots

I have black spots on the underside of my den. Spectabile. I've had this orchid for over two years and it grows well. It has had these spots for over a year but they seem to have gotten worse lately. It's never caused any leaves to drop off or any problems in general but I don't see them on other orchid pics of this species so I'm sure it's not normal. Also recently it's begun to cause some discoloration to the tops of the leaves with the spots. I've searched the web but found no similar instances. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks

Looks fungal, maybe Cercospora or Septoria. Have a look at Orchid Diseases for diagnosis and treatments. There is a chart of disease controls on that website that will tell you what to use for specific problems. Note that not every fungicide works on every fungus.

You should keep it away from your other orchids. It can spread fast. Also I have found that some dendrobiums are sensitive to fungicides. Spectabile is a pretty sturdy dendrobium, but be careful with the dosage.

Agree:fungus.... However, I have treated mine with the "black spots" - they haven't gone away nor have they spread.... weird, huh? The plant is thriving and growing like crazy. I know I overwatered it a couple times so it's my fault entirely :-(

Treated with 2 things: insecticidal soap and fungicide (red bottle, sorry forgot the nam/back is KILLING me, can't bear to get out of bed....yeah, I know I shouldn't have played golf!). I was going to say most fungicides are pretty much the same as they contain fairly standard ingredients but that might be true ONLY for amateur growers like myself. I better come back and respond to some posts when I am a little less distracted from pain. I'm liable to say anything when I'm feeling like this..BRB.

Sorry you are not feeling well.
When you are feeling up to it, check the link I provided in an earlier post about orchid diseases look up the fungicide-bactericide chart.

You could try neem products. Or if you want to get out the big guns, try Thiomyl or Cleary's.

citywildcat - Remember that the plant won't heal damage on leaves, the spots will stay there until the leaf falls off. Even if you kill the fungus, the old leaves won't change. The new growth will be healthy though.

Oh, yes... Certainly what is already there will stay. I appreciate that link and will look at the list of options I have. Don't plan on entering a competition so appearance is not a big big priority. Since it seems to be growing like a weed (new growth not affected at all), I may have gotten it in time but will still stay on top of any possible reoccurrences or the possibility that other plants may be affected (which doesn't seem to be the case so far.). However, sometimes my complacency in assuming something has been eradicated, has come back to bite me! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIPS/ LINKS, ETC.

I have a Dendrobium Nobile that is doing something similar. I assume this is fungal, because these plants love full sun, so I can't imagine it being sunburn. What do you guys think?
