Red face Newly acquired Gastrochilus retrocallus (syn. Haraella retrocalla/odorata)

Purchased in bud and started to open yesterday. I had buy one about 2 years ago and it only survived for a day. It has been about a week now and I did not kill it! Quite an achievement for me. It is in pot, so I need to be careful with watering. I already get personal advice from Elio. Regarding fragrance, I cannot smell anything right now. I hope it will thrive in my condition. According to Royal Horticultural Society, Haraella retrocalla/odorata is now named as Gastrochilus retrocallus.

I'm planning to cross with my Phalaenopsis Kenneth Schubert later and hope for the best! Fingers cross.

Beautiful blossoming, love this miniature, accompanies me now for several years, it is quite easy to cultivate, but you have to be careful to root is delicate, for my personal experience and in the climate of my latitude is better to grow it in cork raft and on moss , he loves a high ur. 60-70%, fertilization force 1/4, 75 ppm, does not need rest, it will give you
    a lot of satisfaction.

Very interesting flower and plant. Hope it does well this time and your cross is successful. How did you manage to kill the last one in a day??

Most probably overwatering and it was in pot with sphagnum moss, the air is too stagnant in my house back then. It rotted at the base and drop the leaves the next day. I never grew anything successfully inside my house.

I add, indispensable good, constant ventilation, the Haraella retrocalla likes to frequent watering, so it needs ventilation to dry quickly.
Wrong I never speak of ventilation, take it for granted, but essential for healthy plant growth.

A quick look at registration records shows just one Gastrochilus retrocallus hybrid, Gastronopsis Nanzhi Pink (Phal Wedding Promenade x Gchls retrocallus). Wedding Promenade is typical first generation miniature breeding with Phal equestris, so your proposed cross with Kenneth Schubert is a new direction in Gastronopsis breeding. There are only a few other Gastronopsis hybrids from other Gastrochilus species.

Good luck with your new plant and the cross. Interesting choice. I would take a flask of that hybrid if I could get it.
