Broughtonia sanguinea 'Karin' AM/AOS

I bought this orchid in 2010 and it proven to be the strongest growing Broughtonia sanguinea I have ever seen. It was awarded in 2014 and I gave it the clonal name Karin after my mother.



It has four flower stems this year and the two strongest are more than two feet in length. In its new summer shade house:

That's a stunner. I had a more traditional color form once and it was a bit of a weak flower. Yours looks so much more sturdy. I really love the clean white too.

Thanks Chris. It is very strange that Broughtonia isn't seen very often in collections. It has some reputation of being difficult to grow but I don't understand that. It must be mounted, otherwise rotting is behind the corner - that's all.

Thanks Robb. I have the normal red one as well and although it has grown very well over the fourteen years I've had it (one plant is now five), it is a much weaker grower and the flower stems are only half the size compared to this one.
