Can you provide more specific info? “Dry on top” may-, or may not suggest a need for watering.

What is the potting medium? Have you unpotted it to check the roots? How is it responding to your conditions?

The “cool” part of your description is a bit worrisome, as I find mine do best if kept warm, but I grow all of my paphs in semi-hydroponic culture.

Well, it's a venustum so tolerant of cooler conditions. IN the winter fall and spring night temps get into the upper 50s low 60s. It's actively growing and producing a new leaf. As stated in the original post, it's in fine bark, lava rock and charcoal. have not unpotted it as it's very small and I knocked it out of the windowsill immediately upon getting it and partially unpotted and shocked it anyway. gonna wait awhile(unless it starts to decline) before putting it through that.
