Oh i got an update. I final verdict on the Masdie death. Apparently not only did I leave it high and dry for three days, but I was told that I used way too much spagnum becuase I placed the plant in a wet/humid environment. The sphag never got the chance to dry out and gave my little M. rolfiana root rot. Deadly root rot.

1of9, Sorry for your loss.
Diane, let it goooooo!~~~ We're all on the same page here!![]()
Ahhhhh, we'll help her wipe it off....
Sorry for your loss, tindo. I received 2 mamasdevallias last a week ago: M. constric and M. barlaea. Constric is on cork bark mount and barlaea is in a clay pot. I left them in my office and I was worried the mounted one won't survive the weekend so I put it in a bucket and seal the bucket with a plastic bag. When I came in on Monday, they looked very dried, all the flower buds on Contric blasted. I immediately bought a 10 gallon fish tank and tried to convert it to a terrarium. I already ordered a small fountain pump so I can make a automatic sprinkler in the tank. But with the sprinkler in, I worried it would be too wet for the potted one, so I will need to mount it. I am quite reluctant to do it since I don't know if the potted one will like to be mounted. Now your story would further discourage me.

Hi Qing,
I have the M. barlaea (Masdevallia barlaeana) too. Don't mount it. You can grow it very well in the clay pot with moss, and shady! This plant likes it pretty wet!
Cheers. Hoa.
Thanks Hoa. I will leave it in the clay pot then. I have to figure out how to water the mount one over the weekend. Maybe a drippig system will work.

Good luck!
Well, I did not mount it, but the Barlaeana is doing really bad and I think it is about to go to orchid heaven. But my masdevallia constricta (mounted) is doing really well, it grew 9 new leaves and has 6 buds forming, but 2 got blasted over the weekend (my automatic watering system is malfunctioning so the plant got too dry). I am watching the rest really closely, I can't wait to see the flowers.

Fantastic news about the Masdie. I should try one again.
