Grand Rapids orchid show

Probably my favorite Michigan show. Lots of room in the display area, & quite a few venders attend. Went to help my old os w/ set-up. I enjoy helping w/ set, getting to see some of the old members again and a bonus is getting to see all the neat stuff the venders bring before the general public gets a crak at it. [It is not uncommon that all the really "choice" plants are snapped up during set-up.] Took some pics of displays but many were not fully set up before I left. Hopefully Kevin will have taken some as well.

Speaking of which, I dont' know what was wrong with me but I failed to snap a pic of Kevin pouting in the Ann Arbor display... Sorry folks.

I did find it interesting that by in large, the displays tended to be either very simple









or very involved.





Didn't seem to have any that were truly 'in between'. Oh And here is a catt taht caught my eye though I didn't get its name

Wonderful displays and the orchids ain't bad either. Our big show in Venice is this weekend I can't wait. Always good stuff to be had.

The catt is beautiful. I am surprised that the owner did not wash off the water spots on the foliage. That was something that was told to us the very first time we entered a show. Clean off those leaves! LOL.

Nice displays and flowers.... it's a hiatus of shows here and I have to make do with meetings and of course, what y'all put on the forum... so pics of shows are most definitely welcome!!!

It's funny, for all the fancy displays, I like the second photo the best. It gives a sense of the orchids growing wild and just seems asthetically pleasing to me. Not that I know squat about judging displays!

I'm going to help setup a table for the NH Orchid Show later this month. I'll be sliding a few plants in, even though I'm not a member of the OS. I just thought it would be fun to try out. So Bruce, what should I wash my leaves off with - milk?

Some people use milk, but then you have a stinky rotting rag to deal with when you are done. We use a product called sun oil. It is mixed with water. (An insecticidal oil.) Spray it on as a mist and wipe it off. The leaves wipe off clean and look beautiful. It is harmless to the plant too. There is a thread on here somewhere where I talked about it and posted a photo of the actual name of the product. I call it sun oil, but it has another name as well.

Yes now that Bruce pointed those leaves out, I am quite suprised that they aren't clean!
