I don't have one but I have read that they like bright light and lots of water in "summer" and a bright cool dry winter rest.
Thank you.
I was doing some online research on these guys today and one of the sites said that this plant was also called Stanhopea--that isn't the monster you got at the OSO auction is it Bruce? If so, I'll have to rethink buying one. I'd have to move out of my future greenhouse before I ever got to move in.
Does anyone know if the two are similar or the same?
IIRC Bruce's was a hybrid between two genera, was it Coryanthes and Stanhopea?
This is an overcollected and endangered Panamanian species that makes softball sized pbulbs in its own right. I can PM you the link I am getting this from if you like but it is at a vendor's site so I don't think I can post it.
two aspects essential in order to carry it to flower; first, the fundamental one, it is that one not to exceed with the humidity when the new pseudobulbs are in maturation, the second to guarantee much light as soon as leaked, moving the plant in the open air in spaces it even ventilates to you and seeds ombreggiati during the phase of preclosing (spring summer).
The substrate must be vaporoso, rich of organic, acid and held material to constant, but not excessive humidity.
In its areale this orchidea grows very well in rich lands of organic material and ventilates to you, places between the small shrubs of the pendii, while it too much does not appreciate ombreggiati atmospheres of the secular and driven in forests. Therefore for the happened one of its cultivation, it is useful to hold the plant in humid atmosphere, having cure to maintain the substrate of the vase with good water-drainage, to water regularly with water lacking in chlorine, possibly piovana - the plants of elata Peristeria do not have many bacterial enemies and/or fungini, the more vulnerable parts are the turgid pseudobulbs on which the excessive the water humidity and stagnation between the thin girdles procurano with inusitata speed and violence, spots of marciume, that they become vehicles of betterica propagation and fungina, sometimes with lethal outcomes also for the plants.
In nature the elata Peristeria is subordinate to the monsonico climate, characterized from an rainy phase and one drier, this goes reproduced also in cultivation, reducing the wettings when the vegetativo rest takes part.
The fertilizations can be dates with quindicinale cadence during the period of development and halved during the dry phase.
