The blooms are a lot smaller than IOSPE state for porphyrostele. it says 4 cm these are about 2cm and there is more purple on the sepals.
I didn't realize it yesterday but when I came back to your post today, I realized that I have this species yet didn't recall having a maxxie that looked like yours. It is a keeper though. There are very few Maxillaria hybrids...I would guess it is a species.
Hey, Carrie, look what I found. I am not so sure if that's what you have but I am sure someone can give us an idea. I will also PM you another link... http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...-cerifera.html
Thanks Margo, the buds and markings are the same but the lip on mine isnt paler than the petals and sepals, but it is closer than the porphyrostele. the underneath of where the lip is spotted is a lovely deep purple, I dont think its a first bloom for it, think i bought it previously bloomed, or id blame it on it being its first attempt![]()
There ya go!!! Blame it all on him!!! LOL
If you look again the link- Ron's thread, you can see that there are a few blooms on the picture and they are all a bit different?! Or is just me?!
The markings are all different but the lip is pale cream on all of them, on mine it is a definate lemon yellow. other wise its a perfect match.
Very cute, Carrie! I like! Is it a small grower?
Carrie my recent post that Margo pointed to does not have a tendency to climb or I might have suggested a color variation of it for they are similar
