Den. kingianum - it finally bloomed!

After a couple of seasons of trying, this plant finally bloomed.
Only two pseudobulbs bloomed, but its a start

It has a very heavy fragrance. Like one of those classic perfumes.





The other pseudobulbs have some swelling buds too but it is too early to tell if they are flower spikes or keikis. I would be happy either way.

That's a cutie too! I killed mine after leaving it out in 20 degree weather a couple of winters ago...I need to get another one.

It shows how different country's have different orchids that are common.In my shadehouse I have about 30 Kingi's that we give away at our shows to people that are interested.

Well, very well done! that is a cute one.
As you know, these are native to us here in Australia, along with many others. It is funny to see them being grown worlwide. Here, they are treated like dirt by most gardeners and most of these are mounted on trees and tree fern logs and slabs and left outside year round with hardly a look in until they flower....
Mind you, with a little care they can be beautiful things such as yours.
The trick with these guys is to keep them fairly dry and bright in winter, with minimal or no food at that time. We have ours on the forks of trees and on rock crevices in the garden and still they bloom their heads off every spring and summer.
Congratulations and hope you will try some more Aussie natives. I think you should try Den. speciosum var hillii or as it is also known these days Den. tarberii.

I basically put it on the top of the brightest shelf in the greenhouse and totally ignored it for the whole year.
It gets water and fertilizer along with the rest of the orchids, but otherwise no special treatment.
I guess you can call it "tough love", but it somehow worked lol.

My kind of orchid! LOL! So I just ignore the little thing, and it will bloom beautifully.
