Does misting really help your orchids?

Or primarily for orchids with few roots? Do you just spray daily or several times? Opinions.....

I have a phal recovering from root rot. I spray its roots daily or more than that, but its leaves started to gradually get softer and softer. So I just gave it a good dunk in a bucket of water and it perked up. So misting between waterings may help, but relying completely on misting isn't quite enough.

Of course, misting aerial roots can help. Aerial roots tend to dry up faster since they're not in soil. I've had some wrinkled ones on my phals. So I spray them often. There aren't apparent results, but I think the roots do enjoy it .

I mist my mounted plants daily. I also mist my plants in baskets. I dont mist potted plants though.

I think it depends on your conditions, like everything else with this hobby. If humidity tends to be low in your area, misting certainly can't hurt. On the other hand, if your growing area tends to be damp (over 70% relative humidity) to begin with, you might be asking for fungus if you start misting.

I usually mist the top of my plants in s/h that have been recently potted & the 1,s in my west window behind my PC,c as the humidity tends to get pretty low @ times.

The 1,s in my growroom don,t need it really as the humidity is a lot higher.The Phals in there are growing aerial roots.All my indoor 'chids have fans blowing on them so this does tend to dry out the top of the medium pretty quickly.

My misting it actually more like a light watering. I really spray them good, at least the ones that need to stay moist. I have killed my fair share of phals from overwatering, so my heavy daily misting rather than watering has kept me from being a phal killer for 75 days.

Oh yeah, forgot to add. Me too! I have to mist my mounted den or else it'll be and instantly wrinkle up its canes.

I never mist my orchids as a group "overhead" (except maybe very lightly which does enhance humidity in and around plants that are grouped together). Not heavily, though. Too many nooks and crannies that water might lodge in. I do mist exposed roots of cattleyas, phals and oncidiums at least daily. It seems to help roots keep growing - especially under warm HID lights. Misting individual thicker leaved sympodial plants like cattleyas also discourages certain pests from taking hold and keeps leaves clean. I never mist leaves of paphs or phals - too much risk of crown rot. With pleurothallids, which would be grown in high humidity environment anyway, misting is also beneficial since moisture will last longer in a humid atmosphere, even with circulating air.
