Anyone ever bloomed this sucker?

Blc. Laddawan beauty. Has anyone had any luck with this hybrid? I've had it for over a year now, and the thing the grows like a weed (always has at least two pbs developing at a time). It's got around 14 or so mature pbs, but it never blooms! It takes pretty high light, all summer, spring and most of fall its outside getting around 7 hours of direct texas sun a day. In the winter it stays in a southern window. I regularly fertilize it. Last winter it made a pathetic attempt at sheathing on one pb, but the sheath never fully developed. Should I wait until fall to call it quits on this thing?

I think you need to shake it up a bit. Try a cool snap out side, or switching the fertilizer or a bit of a dry rest. It needs a jump start. If that dosen't work, threaten it!

I agree. Usually I would recommend more and brighter light, but you describe enough light for a BLC. If the plant has that many PBs it needs to be disturbed a bit. It is so happy, it doesn't feel the need to reproduce.

I would try in-situ dividing. Kelly, I got this plant last year as a bag baby and it has behaved the same way that yours has and is in enough light to bloom standard sized catts.

What is "in-situ dividing"? I've never seen that expression before on here....

That just means dividing the plant while it is still in the pot by cutting through the rhizome at some point. Basically just slicing the plant in two while leaving it in the pot. That way you really end up with two plants in the same pot with minimal root disturbance if you are really careful and slice the rhizome only.

I was thinking that this might also provide the "shock" necessary to bloom a reluctant catt. I have done this with my Richard Muellers and it seems to make them grow and branch more frequently along the length of the rhizome....worth a try

Thanks Clint. Glad to hear that this cross is obviously just a stubborn one. I think I'll try to give it some cool air this fall and wait it through to see if perhaps it's a fall bloomer. (Last fall it may have been too small to bloom.) If not, I'll try an in-situ division. Sounds like it could work..
