    Default Sharry Baby is spiking forever

    I got this Onc. Sharry Baby this spring. Divided and repotted it into two pots, one large one small. From my note, the large one started spike in early June, and I just noticed two spikes on smaller one this weekend.

    The question is for the large one: the spike is about 2 feet long now, and it has been 3 month. But I haven't even seen any bud on the spike yet. How long will it take, and am I doing anything wrong? They both are growing outside in hot Houston summer, and I water them about every 4-5 days.

    It does take a long timefor an orchid to finish spiking and then finally flower...so have patience. You may have to water more often but stick your finger down in the media to make sure it is dry before you to irrigate again.

    some Sarry Baby clones grow very long, spindly spikes and that take time. I have the tricolor clone and it's spikes are a foot to 18" and that is short for the Sweet Fragrance clone, which can get to 3+ feet in length

    I agree - my 'sweet fragrance' had a 4' spike, and you know that's gotta take a looooong time to bloom!!!

    Thanks guys! I guess I have to be patient. The label didn't say any clone name, so maybe I have "sweet fragrance" kind.
