    Default this medium ok? possible mold...

    hi.
    i'm taking care of this orchid for somebody. i got it a couple days ago and i haven't seen an orchid potted like this before. it seems to be crammed in the middle of a few huge chunks of bark. the shape of the pot has even stretched to fit the bark. the roots have grown out the top. some of the tips look like they are splitting. that is mold that's starting to grow on the bark?

    so far the plant seems to be fine. it has some little green sprout starting to come up. i guess i'm wondering is it ok to keep it potted like this? and if it is mold can it spread to other plants?
