Flower Differences

The end flower just opened and as one would expect it is more deeply saturated with color. But notice the pattern on the older flowers as compared to the new one....just fading or what? Just a couriosity of mine

That is a really cool photo showing the progression. I like it, Howard. I would say you have captured the natural fade of the blooms. One other thought could be a temp change. I know with our phals that have spots, I notice that the blooms during one part of the year are more solid and during a different season or after a temp change, they spread out and the opposite is true depending on the temp change up or down.

I would bet on the temp change as well. I had one that bloomed deeper in color with cooler weather

So only time will tell but I wonder as the new flower fades, as I know it will, might the more predominant pattern be the dots rather than the current dense pattern???

My first thought was temperature too. Your temps when the bud is setting and when it blooms can really affect the color saturation. In your case it makes it look like a grid rather than just spots--which is very intriguing I must say. It would be great if you could get another bloom out of it--then we could really see if the temp theory is correct.

I agree with everyone about the color change being from temp. change. I have two posts on here of one of my plants called Slc. Beaufort. When it's colder there is less color on the lip. But I've also heard with some whites, if you use different or less fertilizer it affects the amount of yellow in the lip. A white like Wedding Song.... IMHO it is the temps....but then I'm still relatively a baby at this.
