White spider

My house is situated next to a river... today we went for a walk to pick up some smooth granite pebbles. When I stumbled on this cute interaction...
A little white spider living under a white flower





In the background of the picture you see some buildings from the primary school I attended in the 80s.

Cool spider. Do you know what kind it is? I have not seen a white one before. Also, what are the tiny orange flowers in the last photo?

What a cute spider, I too have never seen a white one. Are those Calla Lilies? The orange flowers almost look like nasturtiums. What a lovely area.

It's a type of crab spider. They come in a number of colors -- yellow, pink, green for example. The coloration helps to hide it from both predators and prey.

Hi Yes they are Nasturtiums, or as we call them, Kappertjies (say cupper-keys) which I think is from dutch or very early afrikaans meaning little kappies (those funny hats women wore in centuries past) As the do have a similar shape....

There are banks of the stuff... its basicaly a weed over here. at the back of the flower it forms a long point like a pointy hat... as children we used to collect tonnes of the stuff... you bite off the tip and suck out the sweetest nectar.

I am not familiar with the spider's name... only seen one or two in my life.

But yep its a realy nice area. I think I can stand by my swimming pool and throw a rock in the river....

The name of the liley escapes me now... we call the vark blomme (pig flowers) and the english people call them pig ears...

That's a neat spider and how cool is it to have a river running in your backyard (and such a pretty river too!)
