Repot my orchids or not

I went to a local nursery today and took home some chids which 2 of them are in spike but totally root bound. My question(s), should I wait until they finish blooming or take the risk of killing the blooms if I do repot them. I'm planning on using S/H. I did repot chids that are in spike in the past and they turned out okay, but I'm just not sure on these, the one on the top left is a Bc. Maikai 'Mayumi' and the lower left is a Bepi. Phoenix 'Kona' a cross of B. nodosa x Epi. phoenicium.

If you are going to make a drastic change, I would caution you to wait. It you were only going to put them in a bark mix, I would say - "Go for it". We repot plants in spike and even bud without problem. Just remember to not disturb the root ball too much. Going to S/H will be a big shock for the plant, so I think if the blooms are important to you right now, you should probably wait. JMHO.

i agree. being rootbound isn't the most urgent situation, it can definately wait (tho make sure and monitor the plants water needs a little closer, sometimes when they're rootbound they dry out a lot faster) and the plant has to put a lot of energy into new roots when you switch to semi-hydro so it would almost definately abort the blooms

Oooops, I got lost for a while. Thanks for the advice. I did repot both in fine bark mix and tried not to bother the roots too much. For a while I thought I was going to lost the Bepi. flowers since one of them started drooping. But I was wrong, one of the flowers opened up and the second of is getting ready to open. I will post the photos on the appropriate section of the forum.
