Warczewiczella lobata

I am confused about this orchid nomenclature previously was known as Cochleanthes and now Warczewiczella lobata, really headache. Anyway I received this plant 3 years ago from Columbia vendors at that time still no ID. This plant really floriferous many flowers from the same node , very fragrant and fresh. Lasting about 7 to 10 days.

The current accepted name is Cochleanthes lobata [ Garay, Orquideologia 4: 21 (1969)].

Warczewiczella lobata is now considered a synonym [(Garay) Dressler, Lankesteriana 5: 96 (2005)].

It would be nice if taxonomists would stop trying to create jobs for themselves, LOL.

You type in the the species and genus and you get the info. It is a good research tool. You can also bring up a full list of a genus, accepted and non accepted names, by typing in just the genera name. The database here is live and updated daily but sometimes it can take up to a year, after a paper is published, for it to be added to the database.

Well, I have to agree with Tim, whatever the final name for this orchid shall be - I think the bloom is lovely. I wish I could smell it too.

Very cute shape and pretty coloring. I'm glad the name is Cochleanthes now. That's easier to say than Warczewiczella.

That is very pretty, makes me want to stick my nose in it to smell the fragrance.

Thanks for this link Ron, being a beginner and at my age it may be too late to learn even half of what's in the orchid world. Although I'm proud of myself of how much I have learn in the past 6 mos. when I started this orchid hobby.
