Well, I have told myself not to purchase any more unknowns. However, I saw this noid drowning in a ceramic pot when I went to the grocery store to pick up some lunches. I couldn't leave it there, could I? The plant is 12" tall and has seven inflorescences. Three are partially bloomed.

Blossoms about 1" across. It was sitting in two inches of water. There are never name tags in these. Any idea what species or genus this may be? Oh, and the care tag. It says "Orchids will give you weeks of pleasure with proper care and handling." I kid you not.

This looks just like Howerea (Hwra.) Lava Burst. I bought one in bloom in a pot exactly like the one that yours is in.

Plus I think they are shortselling it "weeks of pleasure..." mine bloomed for at least 5 or 6 weeks! Nice purchase!

The flower looks like Oncidium and the intergeneric hybrids. I can not hold the camera steady enough to get a good blossom shot, sorry. No fragrance or very slight. Yours too, Meg?

YES, Meg I bet you are right! Possibly Howeara Lava Burst 'Puanani' AM/AOS even. It looks like Gin has one too. I believe I can keep this one for more than a few weeks. Thanks, Joe

I purchased Hwra Lava Burst 'Puanani' one month ago and its beautiful. Mine is still very small but it already bloom. Here is a pic so that you can compare.

Definitely Lava Burst. What a great find at a grocery store! 'Weeks of pleasure'? That's why they didn't bother with an ID tag. I think they expect it to be disposed of when it's done blooming. I can't understand that mentality; I'm cringing just thinking about it.
