Better-Gro Bloom Booster

Hi all! I was searching through the forums looking for a thread that discussed this particular brand of high-P fertilzer, but I couldn't find one...

I wanted to throw the question out there, does anyone use Better-Gro Bloom Booster? If so, what is your method? I just ordered some today, and was going to use it instead of my regular schultz orchid food when I do my 3 weeks on/one week plain water fertilizer schedule...any thoughts on this?

Just looking for feedback/ideas/suggestions..

We have used it in the mix before, Becky. I think the important thing beyond paying attention to the different levels within each brand of fertilizer is to keep 'mixing it up.' Use one fertilizer one time, and then a new one the next time. Rotating between two or three. I really like the results I get by using MSU fertilizer and Fish Emulsion, but I still use Miracle Grow and others in the rotation. (And, as you know, some plants need a bit different levels of the different parts, so a nice mix within the whole collection seems to keep everyplant happy.) JMHO and practice.

Becky, this is the brand I use all the time. I purchase it at a BBS for about $3.85. Bruce does make a good point about mixing and matching.... I change between higher nitrogen Better-Gro and the bloom booster and can't tell a difference. Because they are easily available and cheap for me, this is what I use. If the MSU product was easier to get and not soooo costly, I'd try it!

Ok I gotcha - I like the suggestion of mixing the different fertilizers you use, I hadn't thought of that before, but it makes total sense bc they all have different concentrations of the nutrients. Interesting!!! I think this will give the orchids a shot in the arm, I can't wait to see what happens...now the waiting begins

Be careful...when looking at the potash, see how much urea there is. Orchids hate Urea like crazy. There should be classes for all this stuff....give this kind of plant, that kind of food and potting, and when to do it all. I recently found a calendar on the AOS site but it didn't give info on enough of the genera with the calendar format. What was there though was interesting....good reading. It helps you realize how complex these things are!!!

Just another sidenote.... the "urea" comes from the form of nitrogen used in the composition of the fertilizer. Not all fertilizers derive their nitrogen source from urea nitrogen. Potash contributes the potassium source usually from the oxide form and is the 3rd number listed in the fertilzer formulation.

Thanks for the extra info on that...I don't know (can't remember) all the stuff about the nitrogen, etc. Biology in college was light years ago and I don't remember learning all that anyways. Sometimes I think my head isn't big enough for all this orchid stuff!

I have the Better Gro Growth and Bloom Booster fertilizers. Both say no urea.

I would recomend a high P fertilizer like this be used maybe 1x per month in rotation with a normal higher N fertilizer.
