Potted English Ivy Dying

So, I hope this is the right place to post this.

A co-worker has a potted indoor English Ivy, he's had it for a while, at least a year I think (maybe two or three), he waters and feeds it regularly, never had issues before. And suddenly the leaves near the base of the plant have begun to shrivel up, turn crispy, and die. They do not change color, they just shrivel up, die, and crisp while still green. They get bright overhead light 24/7.

Any ideas?

English ivy is not really a houseplant. Typically they end up getting spider mites, drying up and dying. I would stop trying to grow it and move on to one of the more tried and true indoor ivies.

the other thing is that the plant matures and the bottom part turns into a woody growth.. so it might just be a natural growth progression for the plant.

It may be getting pot bound too. Is it time to repot into a larger container. Be sure to tell your friend to break open the root ball on the bottom a bit to let the roots expand into the new container.

It's totally unnatural for a plant to be illuminated 24/7. They need some hours of darkness to rest. I'm surprised it has survived as long as it has with that lighting regimen.

All really great advice.

That stuff grows like a weed with very little care and water outside in very hot Fort Worth during the summer. Over watering could be a possibility.

Orchidzrule, I thought so too. But jeeze, he's had more success with his plants than I have with mine. So... yeah, that kept me quiet.

clintdawley, I've seen the pots and stuff, so I don't think it's overwatered.
