After few years of growing this Tillandsia, I am finally able to get its bloom open for me, instead of just the giant spike,(spathe?).

After few years of growing this Tillandsia, I am finally able to get its bloom open for me, instead of just the giant spike,(spathe?).

Wow, Tayna, that is awesome. Does it have lots of blue flowers all along the pink part, or just one? Very unusual!

Actually, the flowers are more purple than blue. BD, flowers appear along the spike one at a time, alternately, starting at the bottom going up. When the last flower at the top dies, the spike will remain fresh for few months. Each individual flowers lasts for about few days.
The reason for my failure during the past few years is the fact that I move the plant indoors as soon as I see a flower appearing from the side of the spike. I realise now that the move caused the buds to blast, took me years to realise that.
