    Smile Cochleanthes/Warscewiczella amazonica

    Confusing with latest nomenclature, this is my collection of Cochleanthes amazonica I love this species from Amazon basin, fan shape leaves with flower arise from leaves axil. The strange about this blooms, the labellum is so big and beautiful purplish stripes with background white in color. Very long lasting unfortunately some described as no smells.

    Beautiful blooms.The one in the first pic really has a very good shape and full lip.

    What about that supposed scent?! I got one based on all I'd read about how fragrant it is. Of course when it finally bloomed, no fragrance!

    I had 5 different Cochleanthes amazonica species from different vendor , the last photo had soft fragrant but not the rest after they bloomed.If this guy re bloom I will sniff again to confirm it, right now they bear seed pod.

    Our two are in bloom now too. I like how the bloom is very near the base of the plant and is so large. I did not realize that they had fragrance. I will have to check too!

    The book "Fragrant Orchids" actually says it's strongly fragrant . Go figure.
