Is this Rhynchostylis gigantea?

Hello all,

Today I bought a couple of the bagged plants at a box store. On the outer bag this one is labeled Rhynchostylis gigantea. It looked healthier and larger than the other one there, so i bought this one. When I got it home, the tag on the plant says "V. Pat delight x V. Bitz's heartthrob 4N." I tried an internet search and from what I can tell, this looks more like Rhynchostylis gigantea than a Vanda. The leaves on this one are about 2 inches wide. I guess I can always wait for it to bloom, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cross your fingers they stuck the wrong tag in the pot. lol I recently picked up a similar baggie baby and it looks like yours. Mine is a gigantea as well. It certainly looks more gigantea than straight Vanda to me as well. Hmm....

I think it looks more like a phal to me. Definitely not a vanda. I'll try to post a pic of Rhy. gigantea later today so you can compare.

The leaves do have the look of gigantea (if a little dark). Only way to find out if it truely is a gigantea though will be to wait for it to bloom.

Yep....time to wait for the flower! At least you're ready now---it's not one of those situations where you watch them spike and bloom only to realize your tag is wrong and you now have a NOID Oncidium! lol

Here is a pic of Rhy. gigantea. Note the veins in the leaves and the narrow shape to the leaves. Also, gigantea will show purple spots on the leaves. Still think yours is a phal, but the notched tip of the leaves is giving me some doubt.

Your plant IS a rhynchostylis.

It's not a phal, though it did come in spaghnum moss for some reason. It does have veining in the leaves though it is hard to tell from this photo (sorry...bad quality). I think it is rhyncostylis gigantea that is mislabeled. The thing that is confusing me is the tetraploid parent on the tag. I think it's just mislabeled. I will wait for the blooms and post photos then. Thanks for the replies and congratulations on your spike. Post some photos when it blooms. I would love to see them.
