spike or no spike for my phal?

hi everybody! This has been driving me crazy for about 2 weeks now. I finally got a pic today. Is this the beginning of a spike? This phal was my first orchid and it hasn't bloomed in about 3-4 years. I have been having a great winter since I just found another spike on another phal. that's 5 out of 6 with spikes. if this pic is a spike, then I would be 6 for 6! I will be leaving them outside well into the fall again this year. That could be why I have all these spikes this year. thanks for your help!

looks like root to me. Spikes are usually as greet as the plant and look like little horns.

I vote for root too... but hey, 5 out of 6 is great!!!! and you still have time for the 6 to form a spike!

It appears to be an air root but that is a "Good Thing"! Congratulations on ur success witht he other 5. I too have found that the longer they are left out in Autumn the better the spiking.

I think differently, it might be a spike... My experience with phal spikes: if it's coming out the side between leaves, it's more likely to be spike, if it's coming out from the front and back, it's a root..

I don't know, but my couple Phals like to grow air roots between the leaves, and it has the silvery cast of an air root, so I vote root.

thanks for the replies so far. It has grown a little more and is looking more like a spike. I'll give it a few more weeks before I get super excited.
